As a research assistant, Melissa Smith provides support for Brooks & Associates account teams providing everything from online and database searches to writing media advisories, pitches and other media materials. She is responsible for the coordination and upkeep of client media lists and coverage tracking reports and analysis, as well as managing projects involving Brooks & Associates’ community outreach.

Melissa’s interest in communications began in high school while serving as editor of the school newspaper. Writing and editing throughout her teens, along with jobs she held in retail and public service, made her realize that a career that merges writing and working collaboratively with other people is definitely something for her. When Melissa entered college, she quickly discovered that public relations fit all of these categories and more.

Throughout college Melissa was immersed in the University of North Texas ’ journalism program, writing stories and volunteering public relations services to the Greater Denton Arts Council. In December 2010 she will graduate holding degrees in journalism with a concentration in public relations and history with a concentration in Europe , as well as a minor in Spanish.

Melissa enjoys living close to the UNT campus in Denton and in her spare time loves to read, shop and spend time outdoors.
